Generally, the global IT services companies pay about 20-30% below market, whilst work you about 20-30% more than the national average. From what i have seen, this is predominantly an australia-only 'phenomenon'. The same firms certainly dont do that in other offices round the globe. Dont ask me why they do it in australia. This figure becomes less the higher up you go.For a senior mgr/Director, expect about 10-15% less than mkt. The smaller , lesser known firms such as Oakton will initially start small ( on salary), but unlike IBM and ACN, they will be open to negotiation and a good negotiator can do quite well in terms of salary. Ofcourse, the smaller players such as oakton dont have the sales/marketing clout of their larger rivals and this makes a big difference in a poor economy, especiallyin regards to choice of projects. For exact salary bands, dont know, try salary survey information on leading employment websites ( which are quite respected). Just remember to skim off 10% from what you see across the board because the employment websites always add a 'margin' to try and convince the unsuspecting that they are underpaid and hence should use their services to find a new job.
