Maybe, but I'm prepared to pay if it's worth it. Anyone used the service here or can recommend someone else?

Has anyone got any strong feelings towards using this service? I can't see it myself - agree with "no" that you should just speak to some good recruiters who should have a handle on what their clients look for. I know it is very important as your first contact with a prospective employer but seriously, how hard it is to write a CV? As the saying goes, keep it simple stupid.

We undertake about a dozen CV reviews a month and I think it speaks volumes that we've not had anyone request a refund for several years - despite offering a refund guarantee very prominently on the CV reviewing page.I'd say that speaks volumes about the value people feel the service has delivered.Tony RestellTop-Consultant.com

In all fairness although writing a CV sounds very simple, it is surprising how many people - educated professionals - just get it wrong. A recruiter will look at a CV for you, but if your CV is not well written (and accurately reflecting what value you have added/can add) you are less likely to get that recruiter's attention in the first place. If you really want peace of mind that you are getting it right and don't have enough free time to get your CV in order, 89 quid is worthwhile imho (not that I offer a CV review service).

£89 isn't much, but it is a lot if you're out of work... It would be good if they did a contingency fee.... £89 to do you a CV with no commitments attached (payable now), or say £200 payable if you get a job after having used that CV (well worth it!)

I'm sure it can be implemented.Do something like estate agents do. Option 1: £89 as a one-off fee with no commitments.Option 2: £200 if you get a job and tell us about it.Option 3: £5,000 if you get a job and don't tell us about it.Or alternatively just let a few dishonest people slip through the net. Most people are basically honest in my opinion.

Some of our lines of business we do get paid on results delivered rather than just a flat fee, so we're not averse to that in principle. However with any contingency arrangement you have to be paid on the things you can control and not penalised for the things you can't control - otherwise the arrangement doesn't work. In the case of CV reviews:-- we can't control the calibre of the people who choose to use this service and choose not to use this service. A contingency arrangement would incentivise us to only take on contingency work from the people who least need help (those already at McKinsey) and disincentivise us from offering to work in this way with those most in need of help (those who are borderline MC candidates). Hardly a recipe for having us help those who stand to benefit most from the service provided is it?-- we can't control whether you secure a job (how good are you at interviewing?) or whether you even secure interviews (do you have the skillset that consultancies are looking for?). Hence the payment you propose does not correlate very closely to the value of the advice that we have provided. And as Caso rightly says, tracking / enforcement would be nigh on impossible! What the service does offer is peace of mind that you've put your absolute best foot forwards when making consulting job applications. In some cases the review results in us providing the candid feedback that we simply don't think a particular individual will make the grade to secure a consulting job - and then helping with a CV re-write to get into non-consulting roles. Sometimes this advice alone is really valuable to readers as it allows them to refocus on other career directions that are more realistic and where they can expect to quickly achieve results. What else can I say - give it a try, if you don't see any valuable input from the reviewer then you're entitled to request a refund. We can't put our neck on the line much more than that!Tony RestellTop-Consultant.com
