Hi,I do a lot of buying and selling on ebay and in fact make a good living out of it. I started that from scratch and built it into something substantial, although my entire business is through ebay. I do want to break into the corporate world through a graduate scheme and my question is if I could sell myself as an entrepreneur in the interview. I am worried that the "ebay" tag will mean they might not take me or my work seriously.

Hmm, A tricky conundrum. U don't want them to think u will spend all day e-baying when u should be working!! Also not sure if they will see it as entrepreneurial... obviously it is but u know how narrow minded these corporate suits can be. Also a lot of recruiters might just be jealous that ur making some cash, u know how some people can be. I'm really not sure whether u should put it in or leave it out. Methinks mention it on the CV in the past tense. Also can u give me any tips etc. I would like to make a good living! How much did u earn from it please and what do u sell.

I think it would depend how big your business is and how innovative it is.If you are making several thousand pounds of profit and can sell a story about your business model that is a bit more sophisticated than 'buy cheap, sell dear' then I think you have a very legitimate case to be treated as a serious entrepreneur.

Perhaps apply for jobs @ internet sites like ebay / amazon / google / etc.Might even be able to skip out on the graduate stint if you have enough experience.

Depends on exactly what type of jb and company you are applying to. Some will be impressed if you tell them you've been raking in the cash on it. For example I used to promote club nights and made a decent bit of money, seemed to go down well in my interviews.

surely promoting club nights goes hand in hand with over-indulging and 'partying' till midday? How can any employer find this, in a general sense, impressive? Note, this is a general question not designed to besmirch the character, morals or undoubted respectability of the poster originale.

Leeches, whilst I'm sure you're well meaning, your ignorance is truly spectacular.Promoting club nights is pretty demanding if you're going to do well at it.- Identifying market niche, - Personal impact to get a club owner or manager let you loose on their business (the hardest part),- Energy and organisational skills to make it happen.

Ms I think you are over thinking it; when major organisations are bemoaning the lack of commercial acumen among new grads etc (quite rightly) you are showing them you can think for yourself - everyone likes an entrepreneur and for interviews it's a good - and topical - talking point. That you made money is interesting, although less so than the fact you have been committed enough to make it work in the first place. Top drawer MS, well done!

With regards to the club promoting thing, they were impressed with the fact i'd been writing business proposals, closing deals, running a profitable venture at a large club and implementing a decent marketing campaign.Anythign entreprenurial looks good on the CV, stick it on there...

Hi,Thanks guys for all your replies. I will definitely put my ebay business on my CV.I started off with just selling household stuff but graduated to other things. I sell food kits, e-books, holidays as well. As far as margins go its 100% cause my investment is literally zero.thanks

E-books? Like the ones that tell you how to make money, and when you buy it you get a PDF file that says "sell people PDF files that tell you how to make money"?

Just a hint for interviews though. Your margin is very unlikely to be 100% unless you are getting all the stuff for free (including holidays). If you are then well done, but if you do have any cost of sales then just think again before you say something similar at interview

If i were you i wouldn't even consider becoming a wage slave, especially a consultant. You have achieved something most people can only dream of. Keep working on your business. The grass is not greener on the other side.
