I'm pretty much expecting the wii to be ripped out of me at this stage but just filling in a health assessment questionnaire thing and has a little section for hobbies, ie what are my hobbies, how long do I spend on them each week etc. It's been preying on my mind that I do very little except work and generally 'doss'. I have little energy, time or inclination for any personal projects out of work and my free time is spent with the missus either watching telly, out shopping, playing computer games or the occasional guilty jaunt down the gym. Any other free time I have would be spent catching up with friends, selling junk on ebay and trying to console myself over the state of my investments.Anyone else feel this way? Do people still have hobbies? Once upon a time I'm sure there was more I wanted to do than work and try not to spend any money cus we're desperate to buy a house. Not to say that life isn't good as far as I'm concerned and not meaning to get all spiritual but is this all there is?Lots of folk at work seem to be well into their running as a hobby but to me that seems a bit dull. It's like 'walking around a bit' for a slightly younger generation. Some of the hard core fitness enthusiasts are interesting but okay, I'll stop rambling, I need some interesting new and different hobbies, what do you guys suggest?

plenty you can do - learn an instrument, learn a language, do some study, cooking, homebrew, do up a car, take up a sport, charity work, scout leader, become a special constable, join the TA (but you'll get deployed and shot at), gardening if you have one, have an affair (joke)

The world is your oyster. buy a tent, learn how to navigate and take a long weekend walking and camping wild somewhere you have never been.

There's nowhere wild left within a reasonable distance of London, is there? Unless by "wild" you mean the sort of wild you get in a ASDA car park on a Saturday night.

A hobby for me is something that makes me meet up with a group of like minded individuals. If I want to have fun on my own I’ve got loads of options. I want a hobby that makes me want to get out of bed on a Sunday morning rather than do nothing and wonder how it’s lunchtime already. Just need to find something I’m interested in…..

how can anyone live without hobbies? What makes us harmonious human beings? There are such questions you have first to ask yourself. If the work is your life's passion, just do it and don't look for hobbies. If you do it more for pecuniar reasons, then you need to boost up your energy with filling your spare time with what most people would call hobbies. They help you feel it's worth to live; and any kind would be fine: porcelain painting, blowing glass, down-hill skiing, gardening, scouting, volunteer work in a library, school, hospital, or just become a member of a dancing club...Good luck to find your way.

Thanks for the suggestions people. Thinking about it, I reckon what would really suit me is to get to the end of this year and have achieved something with all those spare hours and I think it's going to be learn a language and get a belt grading at any martial art I can find that runs classes on a Sunday! Decision made.Aside from that I think you're right, if your work is what you enjoy most then there's no real reason to take up scuba diving, unless you want to.Thanks all.

Personally I enjoy a spot of partridge shooting now and then; a little expensive unfortunately, so it's only once or twice a year, but I keep my eye in with clays.EC
