Since this forum seems pretty strong on sartorial advice - Cufflinks, Silk or Silver? Obviously you wouldn't wear gold (unless your american, and dont know better) but what's the general consensus on cufflinks? I'm growing increasingly fond of the silk ones... they dont scream "i'm skint", and it doesn't matter if you lose them. I mean i have some nice ish plain silver ones as well, but never really wear them these days. But then i got thinking, do girls check out your cufflinks, as well as your shoes before deciding whether to let you fill you boots, or send you packing?

What are silk cufflinks?I'm only an analyst and always wear a variety of cufflinks. Not expensive, just the ones from Lewin's etc. Oh and stop hanging out at bars chicks go to pick up bankers.

The silk ones are the ones you get at Lewins and elsewhere. As for the bars... if you know of any bars in the city where the girls aren't trying to pick up bankers, then let me know! obviously, if they don't have suitably low moral standards i'm not interested

Oh you mean the little knots? Just get some normal cufflinks, they cost about 20 quid,not that much.I'm sure girls can't tell what kind cufflinks are unless obvious style like Paul Smith or they have Alfred Dunhill written all over them.

Don't just think 'cufflinks' when you're thinking about the chicks. Yes in extreme cases you could find yourself on the fast train to boogaloo central with free access to the buffet, but most of the time you will only receive a place in the queue for a ticket.

Yeah the little knots, that look like you cant afford real cufflinks, I love them - and while I'd love to tell you i'm pulling in the big bucks, i'm not but i can stretch to decent cufflinks. As i see it they have one significant problem... ease of losing, I mean you take your shirt off, put them some random, then you can't find the suckers for two weeks. With the little knots, it doesn't matter, always have doezens of them knocking about. Similar thing goes for silver collar stiffeners, always lose them, go for the plastic ones that's way forward.By the way, if you're gonna go for silver, Paul Smith's a bit on the tacky side if you ask me.

I'd say if you're as clumsy as you sound then stick to the knots! A nice tie on the other hand is worth paying out for (gucci, hermes, canali etc.) Surely to god you don't lose them as well?Loving cringeworthiness of this thread. Not clumsy, just focused on 'the bigger picture' old boy. leave it to people such as you and PAs to worry about the little details, while i'm concerned with grand strategy! Agree with you about the ties though, but to be fair if you wear a tie to work these days, half the office thinks you're going to an interview

silk knots are very nice and trendy currently. But, casanova, be aware: the art lies here in the choice of the right color to match your tie (unless you are already so casual not to wear a tie anymore...). I always have some flying around in my suitcase in just in case. happy fishing

can someone recommend a nice business shirt please with links to pics on the internet? nothing too dressy or formal, just a nice everyday shirt to wear in an office where they sometimes do and sometimes don't wear ties. i'm confused about the whole button down thing - do people really wear button down shirts without ties??

I'd just take a look on the Thomas Pink website. Their shirts are quality, failing that just go to TM Lewin like nearly everyone else in London.

Pink has been raising their prices to ridiculous levels over the past few years. They can probably increase their volume of sales in London by raising prices due to the number of people with way too much money and not enough sense. They're not worth the premium if you ask me. I buy all my shirts from Charles Tyrwhitt (http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/).They don't have many outlets but have a great website where you can find items on offer. Plus I think if you order a shirt from them by mail you can try it on and return it for free if it doesn't fit.And if you find that the shirts fit your shape, you can order all your shirts online for ever after.
