Hello everyone,I would like to know about how the Department of Commercial Due Diligence is organised within the Big Four in the UK.I am currently working in that dept at Deloitte Spain and I was wondering if there is much of a difference over there. Also whether the people entering CDD have to do certain exams or not (such as ACA), if it is growing now and what are its prospects for the future. Also, is it easy to jump from CDD to Strategic consultancy (such as it is done in McK, Bain or BCG)? Is the job done there related with CDD?Thank you.Regards,Manuel

They are a team within Financial DD/Corp Finance. Growth depends on M&A (i.e. good now). No additional exams are necessary, but it is HIGHLY unlikely you will make the jump to a strat house. Strat houses also do CDD.

Gary, thanks for your answer.Could you please elaborate why is it so unlikely to make the jump to strategy houses depite the jobs done beng so similar?I was wondering too if they are big dept or if they work a lot with the consultancy side of the company. And finally, if its not too much asking, your personal opinion about CDD and its career advancement opportunities? Do people stay there for ever or do they jump to other depts? Thanks,Manuel

Big 4 CDD is normally focused on mid-market transactions, helping Corp Finance write an IM or helping Accountants review the forecasts. When the going gets tough, the big guys (TPG, Apax, etc) call the A team - Bain, McK, etc. Bain, McK would not like to think of themselves as competing with pwc, and are unlikely to hire from there since they would not be recruiting for CDD specialists anyway. McK normally want polyglots who can move into any service line in any industry in any location. a CDD training at big 4 doesn't give you that. The size of the dept vary from 20-120. People can stay ther quite a while 'cos it's not so up or out as strat houses.
