I'd like to move back to Scotland but stay in consulting. Currently at Acn who i know have offices up there so may look at a transfer but the office is in Edinburgh and i'd like to move to Glasgow. I heard Deloitte are there. Anyone else i should look at?

Glasgow?Not really, its a thin market there.

More for the cost of property the choice was Glasgow over Edinburgh as the latter seems to be catching up with London in places!

Why not commute from Glasgow to Edinburgh? You could even live somewhere nice near the station like the Merchant City. Plenty of people do it.

That is a good option i had considered. Are there many consulting jobs that are Edinburgh based though? i.e. I don't mind doing out of town mon-thur but in an ideal world would like Edinburgh based clients.

The Accn office in Edinburgh is relatively new and I believe they are working out how best to utilise this office so not sure how successful you'd be putting in a transfer. Also the Edinburgh office is purely financial consulting.Deloitte have a strong presence in Edinburgh and Glasgow I believe. They are currently advertising on the website for experienced hires up in Scotland.You seem to be unrealistic in your needs. The reality of consulting is you may be based in Glasgow but that's all -you still can be based UK wide so I'd say client location is unpredictable and out of your control.

Capgemini are also based in Edinburgh and Glasgow. The Edinburgh office is pretty small though. Not sure about the Glasgow one.

The only person I know who works for accenture in the Edinburgh office has been based in London for about the last 18 months…

Glasgow any day over Edinburgh. The latter is such a dreary, pretentious hole of a place.(Rubbish footy teams too) Popualtion is about 350k and the Morningside twang will eventually do your head in. The commute is not too bad between the two tho' As for the shuttle to London each Monday as one post suggested perhaps you ought to go for a company with 21 century communication systems...they're all the rage you know !!

Good stuff taxman, sounds ideal. Work in London but the company pick up the tab, go home to nice pad at the weekend which doesn't require 5xsalary mortgage. Glasgow would be first choice. So much cheaper than Edinburgh.

Edinburgh is a professional city, with better paying jobs and a higher class of people. If you want to do consulting in Scotland, Edinburgh is the natural choice. Glasgow is getting big for operations, call centres and outsourced operations. If you want to be on the shop floor choose Glasgow. Come on people, this is a serious forum. Anyone who thinks Glasgow has better high level job opps is off their head.

Choice of living in Glasgow is purely a financial one. Edinburgh is far more expensive than it but it is a nicer place.

Having lived in Both Glasgow (3yrs) and Edinburgh (22yrs) I am familar with both.You say Edinburgh is too expensive to live in and would prefer Glasgow. Edinburgh is expensive if you choose to live near the city. There are many nice and inexpensive places to live outwith the city such as Balerno, Corstorphine, Colinton, even Livingston all no more than a 30min drive from the centre and you'd be suprised at what you can get for your money (e.g 2 bedroom flat 130/140K in Livingston). Th public transport is very good too so you can't use cost of living as a justification for not choosing Edinburgh beacuse it is just as afforbadle as Glasogw. You just need to know where to look and not want to live in the centre!

It has a population of only about 350k and the Financial/Consulting Mkts are very insular and with all due respects to some very good operators I have come across many absolute ships anchors....per head of population it outranked both the City and Glasgow.Edinburghlad is right to point out that you can get some good housing about 30mins outside of the city centre (Livingston etc) but in all honesty Edinburghlad have you actually visited these newish towns? I wouldn't include morningside as a great place to live!! You obv haven't a clue about Edinburgh and no idea what you're talking about. You're just a stuck up snob!!!Living in Edinburgh is affordable, attractive and the size is the beauty that you can get from one side to the other in about 40 mins. I have both worked and studied in Edin so I do have a bit of a scooby what I'm on about. I also have friends who live in Livingston. Bo'ness, Armadale,Grangemouth, Polmont etc and to be fair none of them are particularly bonny.I'd hardly call the Burgh "affordable" unless you are minted like me.I wasn't actually having a go at you, more the anon geez 3 posts above mine.Apologies if I came over a bit snobby wee man but I do actually think I know what I'm talking about and I don't really think I was being judgemental at all.

that scotland stinks and thats why half of them are here in london. they are doling out huge incentives to foreign students / professionals so that it doesnt become a ghost town. One of my welsh friends used to say, the best sight in wales is the bridge into london, and i guess faster trains from scotland to london will render this debate useless anyways in the future. lets be real and get on with things - and for goodness sake lose some of that scottish pride - its sounding really hollow these days.

Look at the tool above, yup we Scottish consultants are pishing ourselves that we live in the same house as you and it cost half as much, our kids go to a better school with a better education system (choose 3 A-levels to define your future at 16 ha ha ha ha ha!) and if we need to go to the smogpit that is London we do so on expenses so no commute and a nice hotel to cosy ourselves up in.If our national pride makes you feel uncomfortable, our economics should make you positively shiver in your 1-bed 80m2 flat.

I agree the Scottish economy isn't up to much, I was laughing that we llive in a nicer country where 5 people don't want to share the same square metre as us at any given point in time and we get paid as much as you do. If you think we're "all down in London" you should walk through Edinburgh on a Saturday afternoon - "you" are all up here.

Hi, I'm also with Accenture. Attached to Edin office. Depending upon which DTE you belong to, and your interests/ aspirations, it's likely that you will have to travel at least some of the time. I've been about 50% Scotland (Edinburgh/ Perth/ Glasgow) and 50% down South since joining. It's not so bad, commuting each Monday morning and returning on Thursday evenings. And, there are periods where there is a lot of work on in Scotland so you can switch from one project straight onto the next. The Edinburgh - Glasgow daily commute is a piece of cake so long as it's city centre to city centre. It's not even an hour apart so why not go for it. You can only ask the question to senior mgmt, and if there is sufficient demand for your skillset in Scotland then the business case should be there to support the transfer. Good luck.
