Good afternoon,I currently work for a Management Consultancy specializing in clients for financial sector which has an office in London. They proposed me to move to London. salary: 70,000 pounds / year + bonus, etc..I will move me with my girlfriend, who will study in London, and i have some questions:1 - I know that London is especially expensive, this salary allows a young couple to live comfortably?2 - What are the best zone: quality / price ratio to live?3 - Culturally, where i come from, the consultant is seen as a person who has to work from 09:00 am -> 11:00 pm and weekend if necessary ... is the same thing in London?Thank you very much for your help.

Zarko - some quick responses to your questions:
1 - I know that London is especially expensive, this salary allows a young couple to live comfortably?
You will live pretty comfortably in London on £70k + bonus. You'll not be driving a Ferrari, but living in a nice flat and able to go to nice restaurants and take fine holidays. If in part your question is whether you are being paid the right amount, this would be the salary level you would expect of a Senior Consultant or possibly a Project Manager depending on how significant the bonus is.
2 - What are the best zone: quality / price ratio to live?
There have been quite a few forum threads about this. To get a meaningful answer you would need to tell us: i) where your office location is in London and what proportion of your work is expected to be serving clients in London (as opposed to travelling to New York, Frankfurt, etc.). Travel links in London are critical and getting this right will have a massive impact on your quality of life; ii) what for you constitutes quality - for some people this would mean being as close to the restaurants & nightlife as possible whilst for others it means being removed from the city and surrounded by greenery and parks.
3 - Culturally, where i come from, the consultant is seen as a person who has to work from 09:00 am -> 11:00 pm and weekend if necessary ... is the same thing in London?
I would say the same is true in London at the crunch points of a project; but over a project of several months you might expect that there are a few weeks where working beyond 9pm is frequently required and some weekends that are compromised. Possibly things may be worse specifically in the FS sector, I'd have to leave readers in the FS practices to comment on that.Wish you every success with your move and welcome to London!Tony RestellTop-Consultant.com
