Dear All,I recently completed FT MBA from a top UK B school(awaiting results, graduating in June).I am an Indian looking out for Job in UK (Tier 2 permit required). I am primarily trying for consulting roles in digital/analytics, learning/knowledge management.Below is my profile- Electrical engineer from a top University in India with a first class (2:1)- Have 7 year experience in engineering services, market research, learning and collaboration, Analytics and operations. Last 4 years of my career I have spent with Accenture in knowledge management (Consulting support services), reporting and analytics. Have mostly got CSAPG and CAPG ratings being a high performer.- To gain better exposure in Analytics/Digital space, I have also done 2 internships during MBA and have gained considerable experience with Tableau, data visualization and analytics. However most of the time I am getting my CV rejected and not getting any interview calls? I understand one of the reason might be my nationality and stringent visa policy from government. But I believe there are good number of companies with visa sponsorship.I have got my CV reviewed from various industry seniors and HR; I am pretty sure my CV is in a decent shape to get at least some interview calls. Please help me with your experiences, thoughts and inputs. Thank you very much in advance for your inputs and help.Regards,Konsultant

Tier 2 permit required.^^^^This may be a key reason. Nobody likes having to do extra form-filling.

Plenty of candidates which don't need the visa so you are filtered out. Why not work in India (which is a growing economy)?

Agree with your point.Consulting in India has not yet evolved so much. I want to get quality experience in matured markets. In addition given the conversion factor for Indian currency, I have invested a lot for my MBA, want to be able to get the ROI of it. Also looking to start my own firm few years down the line, for which I need the connections here. But yes, working in India, would be last option. If nothing works out, I have my student visa until April, so want to give a try and my best shot while I am in the UK.I was hoping they will bring back POW visa policy, but sadly it didn't happen either.

I work with a number of business schools across Europe, helping their students to secure a career in consulting upon graduation. I can tell you with absolute certainty that the visa issue is a major constraint on your job search.I know of major consulting brands who have a policy of automatically rejecting candidates without reviewing their CVs if they see that that candidate requires visa sponsorship. There is a significant risk to a consulting employer that they will not be able to secure a visa for you should they offer a position, so most will focus their efforts on those candidates for whom there is no such visa issue. The only exception here is if you have skills and experience that are in high demand and acute short supply (unlikely). I suggest you speak to your Careers Service there and establish over the last few years how many candidates in your position have successfully secured a consulting career in the UK market. I suspect you will find that almost all such candidates have needed to revert to working in a country in which they do not have this visa issue. My suggestion to you would be to secure a consultant job in a market where you don't have this visa issue and then look to transfer internally to the London office a year or two from now. This is a route that has a much higher probability of success if your end game is that you need to be working in the London market to fulfil your ambitions. Hope this helps and good luck.Tony

Oh! this is a very new piece of info. Thanks!I did know about the situation before planning my MBA in UK. But given the quality of education and other aspects, I decided to pursue MBA in UK. As I still have 3 months before the student visa expires, I will keep trying till I can.If not may be get into consulting in India and then seek internal company transfer as suggested by Tony.

Instead of just the UK, do try other countries, e.g. Singapore. I have a friend. Indian national. He joined a telecoms vendor, doing standards. He was sponsored (this vendor readily sponsors visa). He then did his MBA, moved to the Middle East (consulting role), finally ended up in Singapore (back in industry).

Why you would want to come to the UK escapes me anyway. Poor housing stock, infrastructure, comparative to mainland Europe, is appalling. Taxes are high (unless you are a US corporate or a single parent on benefits). The NHS is reluctant to fund any treatment more expensive that a paracetemol, and even that depends on your post code. The TV is cr*p so we all buy cable or satellite to watch American TV. The weather is just revolting 11 months out of the year. It's over-crowded anywhere someone hasnt bought the land horizon to horizon. Our political system now consists of one cheesy idiot and a crusty unelectable never was. Some vomit coloured concoction called tikka masala is our favourite food apparently, despite it being inedible and the colour of radioactive dog sick, which shows how deliberately fickle we are are a people. We still havent forgiven Germany for the war. We invent counties which dont need to exist (middlesex anyone?). London is the centre of the universe and outside it is just decline and moral entropy (apparently). We are trying to get our metro to work all night for 2 nights a week and the drivers are going on strike. Yes we still strike. Even our doctors, who we paid to learn to be doctors and dole out aspirin with whats left of the nhs budget. Our borders are under water. So it Cumbria half the time. Go get that Visa!

Go get that Visa![/quote]Mars,There are a few reasons.Firstly, there's the perception that the UK is really great at 'services'. Having 'UK' experience on CV is meant to open doors, especially as the OP apparently intends to return to India in the future. Compare this to others in India, who are only able to cite local experience. Almost everywhere you go (particularly in SEA and ME), it's a 'positive' thing to have UK experience. Secondly, having spent more than what he could afford, I believe that the OP is hoping to recoup some of that investment by earning in £, hence wanting a UK role. There might be other reasons, but I feel that these are the top two. Most don't end up returning to their home countries. The UK is like a 'marriage'. Those on the outside want in. Those in it? Can't wait to get out! ROFL!!!

Thank you for your response and thoughts.I feel sorry for what you are going through and hope things will improve for you.Honestly put, I have thoroughly enjoyed the stay in the UK for last 15 months, people have been nice to me,have made quite a few good friends.Career wise, gained new set of MBA skills, quality industry experience in UK markets. Its not just the perception, but compared to India, when I weigh in pros and cons, I had more pros than cons to have a UK degree and job, which explains the reason I came to UK and looking for job at the first place.UK is still 2nd in terms of higher education choice for international students. I agree with the govt and its policies in the UK which is big turn off for international students. But again, UK degree and experience is still valued a lot in Asia and it has its own advantages. Thanks for taking a moment to submit your views!

Thanks for the reply.I agree with your thoughts. But there are many other reasons. Before choosing UK I have done my research and I was aware what I was doing. Its not just the financial returns, but personal ROI as well. The MBA was a rewarding journey and have made good friends from 15 other countries and culture. My outlook towards life has changed and I am really glad about my choice.Immediate job or salary is not just the measure of my investment, I look for returns in a long run. Appreciate the views coming in, and let us keep it going. Thanks & Regards

Marsday,Let me tell you how it looks from other side of the coin. Since coming to UK and continuing working in consulting:+ Instead of regular 10-12 hrs, I am working 6-8 hrs a day (and nearly no weekend work at all - which used to happen in past)+ My income increased nominally x15, purchasing power-wise x4.5+ I started to enjoy at least 1 month of holidays per year, instead of max 10-15 days+ Due to complexity of projects and maturity of professional services market, my skill and experience gain accelerated+ Again due to increase professionalism in companies, efforts and ideas feel far more valued+ Other positive externalities/comfort such as better environment, infrastructure, social liberties etc.So, some might be taking these granted due being born into it. But for others coming from outside, it is such a blast :) It all depends relatively where you are. I think Mgt Consultants are usually having the upper hand compared to most.
