Hi All,Been reading a lot of posts here and getting some useful info so cheers for that! Having worked for 3yrs since graduating from uni (engineering background) i might be very close to getting an offer as a senior consultant from one of the big consultancies. Then came the pay question: I threw out around £65-70K with 10-15% bonus with medical and pension benefits etc. Would i be wrong in that statement or thereabouts? Being a new player i must have impressed them enough without any prior consulting experience to be considered as a senior consultant however i dont want to throw out big numbers and kill the game. Your views would be appreciated. Looking at UK salaries so that would be great if u all could throw your views.

I personally think that is high, considering you are new to consulting and also have only three years of experience..i would have said..more around 50k rangeBut having said that...if you have impressed them enough, who knows...I dont think you are going to loose out on a job offer because you asked for more money, the worse they will say is they cant offer you that money and come back with a lower offer.....

It is possible you could put them off. I think the salary expectation is probably on the high side for your experience (and you don't have an MBA) but that would depend on the consultancy of course. You won't get that from any of the Big 4 (accounting Big 4 that is) or from PA. Have you seen the Top-Consultant salary survey? Have a look at the salary distribution for this level there.

Cheers for that!I think you may be right and i might have gone a little high. However, they did call me back for the third interview even after i threw the figure out. Maybe they might bring me back down to lower level in the interview hahaOn another note, this is a serious question to all you consultants and one that is brewing in my mind! Consultants travel the globe, work on big issues etc. All this experience would definitely developed your managemetn capabilities. So what are the chances of working as a consultant for 10years and then moving out of the game and working in management for another company (not consultancy). Or once a consultant.....always a consultant! Views?

Apologies for hijacking the thread but I've also recently been offered the position of Senior Consultant (again, from a big consultancy) based in the Northwest (but with plenty of travel). I'm an IT grad, 3 years previous consultancy experience, total of 7+ years post grad Utilities experience as a BA / Consultant and the package on offer is less than £40k. I've done my research (surveys etc.) and this seems low to me - anyone agree / disagree?

SPW,That is very low. From my understanding, big consultancies (e.g. Accenture, Deloitte, CapG etc) normally pay upwards of £50K with 10% bonus at these level (SC). PA might pay less but with higher bonus structure that would possibly lead to the whole package matching the others offer.I don't know what company is offering you this but if I had you experience level I would not accept less than £45K. I will even be asking for much more than this.

With 3 yra post grad you should be looking for a package of £50k inc bonus.Don't forget that although PA's bonus might be higher, it is greatly reduced by factors such as employers taxes being deducted from the figure, plus one third of bonus being paid as a deferred element, so you actually receive only a very small percentage of the original figure
