Hi Folks,I wonder if any of you can help... I am considering a career move from NHS finance into consulting perhaps with one of the big four. I am an ex finance graduate trainee (started in NHS in 2002) and have been working at deputy finance director level for five years. I would be looking for a minimum salary of £85k but not sure what this equates to in terms of job title in the private sector. It's hard for an outsider to work out pay grades which don't ever seem to be published! Any help would appreciated!Thank you

Look at GlassDoor for salary ranges. Although with no previous consulting experience I'd be surprised if you get £85K Salary. if you are a deputy finance director why would you want to leave the finance path anyway?

To clarify: does "I have been working at deputy finance director level" mean "I am a deputy finance director"?
To clarify: does "I have been working at deputy finance director level" mean "I am a deputy finance director"?
It is usually described like this when people (think) they operate at a level above where they are currently acknowledged/compensated to perform at. More often that not in my experience it's nothing more than a ploy to get employed above your current pay grade, although not saying that is the case here. It's more typical in consulting where you are expected to operate at the level above for a period of time to prove you are ready for the jump. I'm doing this now, it's very rewarding doing the same job as people who earn 25k more than you. But hey, that's life. It's a bit of a first world problem really.

Hi JenI don't think you realistically can enter consulting at 85K. Not devaluing what you do but at this level you'd be expected to do some business development and as Rollercoaster says difficult without any previous Consulting experience or commercial experience for that matter. 85K depending on company is typically Senior Manager (but this could be called Director in some Niche companies or even Principal)However, given you are a Deputy Finance Director a potentially more lucrative move might be the interim / contracting market - have you considered this ?If you are Deputy try and get an FD role even if you move to a smaller Trust then the Public Sector interim roles would open up.Of course if money is not the driver and you are prepared to go down a grade / money then you may get some success.DC

"However, given you are a Deputy Finance Director"To clarify: Is he a "deputy finance director" or has he "been working at deputy finance director level"?
