HelloI have an interview with Capgemini soon and want to find out what grade I should be at if I were to join.My profile: 8 years consulting experience in business change and operational improvement at tier 2 and boutique consultancies, good degree from top university.I wouldn't want to become permanent at anything under £80k basic + benefits as I'm currently earning more than this by working as an associate.Any insight to the grading structure and salary bands would be appreciated

Why would you take a pay cut to join Capgemini when you are already earning more than this at a tier 2 firm?

@Jack Black - how do you know that Deusextra would be taking a pay cut when you haven't discussed what the entry grade would be?

I've been working as an associate/contractor. I want to know what grade at Capgemini I should negotiate for so that I won't be taking much of a hit if I were to move from being a contractor to being permanent.

Lots of contractors assume day rate x 220 working days = target salary..While there is nothing wrong with this, most experienced hiring managers won't see it the same way. Perm role has a hidden value in terms of security, benefits, etc.Perhaps scale your day rate x working days x contractor factor (of 50% to 75% utilisation throughout a working year) and then consider what your ideal number looks like, and then decide to stay contracting.

Without knowing anything about your skills apart from the years put in, I would suggest a Senior Consultant grade would be the likely fit - unless you're bloody fantastic, but in my experience good contractors rarely translate into great consultants (no offense, it just seems like a slightly different way of approaching this which leads to some crossed wires).Like other big consultancies, they are more likely to hire you at the top end of the grade below with the aim of promoting you within 6-12 months once you've proved yourself. Unless they are desperate for your sector knowledge. In terms of pay... who knows. That's for you to negotiate and the grade pay ranges will be quite broad. If all your experience is from the consulting/contracting side you will be at the lower end of that grade, but if you have a lot of industry experience from client side, you will be more in demand. I think £80k+ would be a stretch, but again, I haven't seen your CV.Good luck!
