The number of job ads has plummeted by over 50% in the UK and the supply of candidates has rocketed which means that its much harder to get a job with experience. The situation has been made worse for trainees by the big increase in skillset requirements for candidates that agile methodologies demand. Where I work we are testing candidates on 10 core skills as pre-requisites which to master would require over ten years of experience. In the old silo world it was possible to join a BI team as a trainee and just learn SQL for a year. Now you need to be able to hit the ground running with AWS, ML, Python etc. plus having all the Business Analysis Skills of an MBA and being able to present - all for a salary which is lower nominally than it was ten years ago. I agree that its extremely hard to start in this industry.
