I'm currently an undergrad in my first year of uni and I am very interested in becoming a consultant. My question to the members of Top-Consultant.com is: does the field that I study as an undergraduate have the possibility of negatively affecting my chances of getting hired?I assume I will be working for some years before pursuing an MBA and I was worried that a degree in philosophy might initially hurt my chances of being hired. Socrates was cool, but he was broke. I've heard many times that the undergrad education and degree don't mean much anymore in today's world of professionals. I understand the concept that work is what you make of it, but at the same time I'm very drawn to the field of philosophy. Would it be in my best interest to change my major? if so, what would be my best options?Also, I did not perform too well in high school and my SAT scores saved me during my applications process. Luckily i salvaged a 'prestigious scholarship' as defined by my school and I hope to transfer out next year. Somehow I feel this has worked to my advantage as I now have a better sense of what I want to do. Similar to the above question, what are some schools that would prepare me (networking opportunities, internships, education) for a career in consulting? ps. i realize there is a similar thread also written by a prospective consultant who's also a freshman that has been recently updated, however I felt my question was dissimilar enough to deserve its own post =P
