I have strong experience in energy and climate change strategy, and am looking at opportunities in consultancy. Which companies have significant practices in energy or climate change strategy - or are looking to grow their business in this area?

Try Enviros. (www.enviros.com)Also, probably you want to have a look at the likes of WSP, Entec, RPS. (See http://www.endsdirectory.com)Not much point looking at any of the generic management consultancies - they don't have any serious capability in this area, nor are they likely too unless they buy one of these (quite sizeable) specialists.

Thanks stumpy - I'll take a look. I had also heard that Logica, Deloitte's and McKinsey are all looking to grow their energy practices. Though not sure what this means in reality!

It probably means they want to gross their offering and improve their revenue and earnings.Just a wild guess.

Dear Well - please don't be afraid to admit you know nothing about a subject, or alternatively simply refrain from placing your fingers on the keyboard. I think we were being asked what areas these companies might specialise in; the number of employees involved; their backgrounds; where they might be located etc....

I was looking at this area a while back. Have a look on www.environmentjob.co.uk also I came across a specialist in Lonodn when I looked into this. www.sustainability.co.uk Most generic mgmt consultancy energy practices are based around oil companies, energy generators and distributors plus some regulator work whilst the specialist firms do the more environmental and newer ideas.

McKinsey was behind the Vattenfall global carbon abatement curve which is now being used extensively by climate change policy thinkershttp://www.knaufinsulation.com/files/u4/McKinsey_Cost_Curve.pdf

KPMG has recently established a sustainability practice and is also about to launch/just launched a Carbon Advisory Group. The offerings are being developed in house but it is thought a number of strategic hires would be required to build capacity. It appears to be being developed at different rates across the different industry sectors though.

How many sustainability / Climate Change specialist do these really employ? And how many of those are specialists, or just people with a bit of green interest.KPMGMckinseyDeloitteIts very easy to grow (aggressively!!) from base zero. These guys will be good for your cv, possibly good for your career, but rubbish in terms of the work you'll do in this area.

A number of strategic hires?Employ 2-3 "big hitters" who will find in 15 months time they joined the wrong place. These generic guys are not serious. If they got serious, they could do well. Pretty unconvincing so far.
