Can someone give me a steer on Deloitte expense policy?Specifically - is it what could be considered 'fair' - reasonable hotels + overnight meals (eg: in London £200+ hotel, £25+ for evening meal). And how do expenses work when on 'internal work' rather than client business?cheers

Will depend on your project manager in almost all cases - ask them or colleagues on the same project, whether internal or external, to get an idea of what's considered "fair" :)

my experience/info... at Manager grade, on client site (i.e. away from home office city):now a max of £240 in London hotels (exceptions need partner approval i think? not sure, never needed it)first class train travel only if it's over an hourall flights economy unless it's over 5hrs25 max food allowance per day (all meals, total daily allowance) but only if if on client site for most of the day, around 19+hrs(if less hours away, there's bandings e.g. a half day would be £10 food allowance)£5 incidentals per diem for overnight staysinternal work has very limited allowances, the above doesn't apply at allin my experience, there's mass confusion about deloitte expenses because a few months ago they changed how you charge them (you now need to put everything on a corporate charge card at Amex, but none of that is in place when you join.. and it took forever to get the card approved/set up/sent out), and there's also been confusion about what rates apply, even when talking to different members of the same Expenses hotline (!).speaking as someone who's based in a regional office, new to consulting, and was looking for clear guidance - their intranet page on travel & expenses policies is also highly confusing, and literally doesn't make sense in part (broken English, references to points which don't exist in their expense policy).a bit of a mess tbh!

It has been £25 for food and drinks(!) for at least 12 years. It was never really enough and has undergone no adjustment whatsoever for inflation. Furthermore if you are stuck in some hotel you probably didn't choose where there are no other options that is inevitably when you find that it doesn't even cover 2 courses.Half the time they don't want you to claim the £5 incidentals either.Fortunately you often end up with a partner who realises the above is a load of **** and sees little point in upsetting staff he is charging out for £1000-£2000 a day for the sake of a few quid, and it all goes out the window.

interesting, one of the various people i'd spoken to in the Expense team suggested the daily limit was new (this year?),, and that there used to be a per-meal allowance (i.e. a rate for breakfast and a rate for dinner).however, going by the contradictory and confusing info i'd had during onboarding/training and when starting my first engagement, i'm loathe to trust her per-meal comments as accurate!

Breakfast gets absorbed into your hotel bill. The £25 cap is for dinner (sort your own lunch out). There was never a rate for breakfast. Someone's partner may have baulked at £25 breakfasts but that comes with the hotel you stay in.This is all theory. I never had to live uncomfortably. The only time I stayed in ropey hotels or ate cheapo meals was due to the lack of better alternatives where I was working.
