I got some ludicrous feedback following an interview and would like to ask them to give me copies of interview notes.I believe I am entitled to this information under the Data Protection Act.Has anyone had experience of getting an organisation to provide you with info they hold about you using this route? Before, you say it – I know I’ll p*ss them off.Cheers

If anyone ever asked me for my interview notes in those circumstances, I am sure I would suddenly find that I have lost them or had thrown them away after the interview. But, I agree how irritating ludicrous feedback can be. Name and shame?

I have seen these requests come in and be met. if it was a reputable consultancy then the HR function will have made the interviewers deliver their written feedback and will pass that on - whether or not it gets sanitised along the way, who can tell, though again I have seen unsanitised feedback delivered and result in some lively discussion.... you can also ask for any handwritten notes, though good luck getting them. I doubt they'll claim to have lost all records - that would give them legal exposure.

I think it is very naive to expect the notes to be handed straight to you. They will probably give you something bland and generic or will tell you that there are no notes to pass on. If you do get any notes, they may even be written retrospectively.

You are entitled to have your interview notes and all companies should keep them for 12 months after the last recruitment action. Who did you get the bad feedback from?

not my post, but see CIPD site: http://www.cipd.co.uk/subjects/hrpract/psnlrecrd/retrecords12m is recommended not statutory, access to notes is governed by the DPA. to repeat, most firms do take this seriously as they are sensitive to possible legal action around discrimination

Thanks for all your replies. It is given as guidance to keep application forms/interview notes for unsuccessful candidates for one year. I think they would be exposing themselves to legal action by saying they haven’t got copies.http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail?itemId=1074450470&type=RESOURCES

At my previous consultancy when I conducted interviews, we were told notes have to written up in 24 hours. Write-ups were always done, and it was my understanding that you can get them. The only question is a bit why - the prospective place isn't going to change its mind. You could just ask the HR contact to go into a bit more detail on the "ludicrous" feedback. Have to admit, I'm curious as to what it was...

OP - What was the ridiculous feedback and which firm gave it to you? Are u too ashamed to tell us? We do not know you, so there's no point being secretive!
