In terms of exit options and brand recognition which IT consultancy do you think offers the best platform from which to launch a career?

Given that IBMers don't apparently know not to use the reload button, I think it's safe to say that Accenture takes the honour.

I make the score:Accenture = 4IBM = 2Gartner Consulting = 1PA Consulting = 1That gives me some confidence. I am joining Accenture within the next couple of months so am happy I seem to have made the right choice.I once attended a innovation jam forum from IBM and, on the whole, was not too impressed by the level of their consultants - might have been an off day for them. They were quite patronising. I went as a potential client for them. They did not get close to winning any business from my former company.

Ah,So you were really saying ‘I am joining Accenture, please provide some moral support’ and you’ve used the ‘science’ of this thread to validate your decision. You are ideal for Accenture.

Actually, I wanted to ask consultants what they thought, not to conduct a rigourous scientific study. If being concerned about my career choices makes me ideal for Accenture then it seems I have defintely made the right choice.

Surely a consultancy should be judged by it's clients rather than people who work for them, who heaven forbid may be a little bias.......

"If being concerned about my career choices makes me ideal for Accenture then it seems I have defintely made the right choice."Way to twist some words to meet your own agenda!!And you missed out the "honour for being dog poo!" post which, if you opened your other eye, you might conclude is a -1 for Accenture

Ignore the mind-bogglingly witty sarcasm displayed here - it arises from the fact that they are all stunningly successful Fortune 500 CEOs who would never deign to sully themselves with IT consulting.Accenture does indeed have good exit options and brand recognition, and is even a good place to work, provided you go in with an understanding of the types of work you may be expected to perform. Hint: you may not be advising the C-suite on exciting business decisions every day. Or ever, for that matter.

to the commentard who wanted a scientific approach, how would YOU measure brand recognition? I think OP had the right approach. Also to baykus' comment, people who actually have to deal with C-level and board level misfits on a constant basis would have to be a sociopath AND an a**se kisser. so props to the OP on joining an IT consultancy!*starts fire*runs away

I'm not sure this is a question with a clear cut answer. For instance, though many here might not realise, IT consultancy covers many distinct areas of expertise, and many different people making value judgements about the quality of the consultancy. Accenture probably do quite well when judged on a range of critieria. IBM have suffered with morale issues amongst their old hands since the pension scheme changed, which has probably weakened their overall offering, but those at IBM who are good are very good indeed.I think it is clear from elsewhere that I'm not a PA fan, but they can do a good job of bridging the technical/management gap when they use people who have real world skills. They lead the field in security of industrial process control systems, for example.Personally I've always had a very high regard for HP and CA consultants.Don't forget a lot of IT consultancies are more specialised than management consultancies, whilst not fitting easily into the niche or boutique categories. Pink Elephant springs to mind as an example.
