Hi all,My first post on Top Consultant.I'm in my mid-twenties and have a dentistry degree and a masters degree in public health. I'm looking at sidestepping into healthcare consulting. There are a lot of skills that I think you guys have which are important and relevant to public health, and I fancy a change in career given how current prospects are.My understanding is that there are three big organisations, McKinsey, BCG and Bain and the two former firms definitely do some healthcare consultancy. Then there are four and five financial/accountancy firms which do some consultancy PwC, Delotte KPMG etc.I was wondering if there is a specific websites or books I should read to get a bit more insight into the work. I wouldn't be thinking about applying will next year Autumn so I have time. I've been told that I definitely need to train myself in a methodology to approach cases by that point. Is it also appropriate if I research and reach out to people who work for the companies? Should I be speaking to Analysts? Consultants? Directors?Thank youTM

Oh TM, you're qualified as a dentist and you want to go into consultancy??Be a dentist, man!Dentists earn a fortune, they're always in demand, and you won't be stuck in a cubicle until 10pm every night doing powerpoint slides!Speak to some real consultants before you decide to make the move... ask them what it's really like... it's not as "glam" as a lot of people think. You're a qualified dentist, man, and if you move into consultancy you'll end up getting "feedback" during your appraisals from some liberal arts graduate (modern languages, history of art, women's studies or something like that) who is 2 years older than you and wants to lecture you about the "correct" way to to do percentage calculations or suchlike.

If you are good at pulling teeth you should consider moving into recruitment. Not.Agree with Bushy - stick to dentistry.
