Afternoon all,A question about recruitment / application protocol:Having spent a few years contracting in industry, I am now looking for a permanent position within consultancy and have enjoyed some success during initial interviews etc.. As I approach the later rounds, I'm wondering if I'm obliged to 'confess' to being a contractor. My view is that, as long as I'm entirely honest about my experience and what I can bring to a team, the finer points of my current contract are irrelevant and would only serve to weaken my negotiating position. After all, Economics 101 holds that something is worth what someone is willing to pay... regardless of benchmarks. My question, therefore, is: is it acceptable for a candidate to 'conceal' their contracting background? Obviously, if asked directly, then it would be game over and time to come clean but, in conversations about salary, is it acceptable to annualize a daily rate?I really appreciate your insight(s) - I don't want to appear dishonest but, at the same time, I obviously want to negotiate the best deal for me!

I think this is a great point about the risks in becoming a contractor and how that might help/hinder you in the future. I would think you do have to declare it but then be ready to get stereotyped as just a mercenary in it for the money. Having said that i have seen some contractors join big 4s at manager level, so it must be possible to transfer between the two worlds.
