Hi,To give some background on myself before jumping into questions;- I graduated from The University of Sheffield 4 years ago with a class 2.1 degree in Management Studies.- I began working for a medium-sized private sector outsourcing company (3,000 employees) as a Graduate Business Developer, typical duties included; researching market opportunities, data/intelligence gathering, providing general project support and managing communication with external stakeholders- I progressed (within 18 months) to the position of Business Development Manager, where I led project teams of up to 30 individuals in the submission of complex tender documents to central government customers. A particular highlight being the successful tendering to deliver a £10m p/a contract in an emerging market, doubling the size of this operation overnight. Contributions within this role included; programme management of the bid solution, leading the development of the Target Operating Model, development of financial models and risk modelling. I performed this role for 18 months before moving to the public sector in order to develop an understanding of local government finances, processes and challenges.- In my current role (performed over the last 10 months) I am part of a county council Transformation team where I undertake Service Redesign projects to generate cashable savings by back-office re-engineering of processes. This role includes undertaking baseline data gathering, engaging stakeholders via Service Redesign workshops, process mapping the 'as is' and 'to be' processes, project management of the change resulting from the service redesign and monitoring the benefits realisation of each project.Working in local government I am earning a modest £28.5k, but enjoy all the benefits of working in the public sector (good work/life balance, limited travel, attractive pension scheme, flexi time, good annual leave entitlement, annual increments). So in terms of salary expectations I would be looking to earn at least £35,0000 to consider moving back to the private sector and losing the aforementioned benefits. My questions are;- Would I be an ideal fit to a management consulting firm at this stage of my career? Or should I bide my time, gain further experience in my current role and make the switch 2-3 years down the line.- Which areas could I potentially move into, making best use of my experience and competencies?- What level should I pitch myself at (e.g. Senior Associate, Consultant)- Which out of the Big 4 firms would I be closest suited to?I was thinking of looking at performance improvement roles and trying to leverage in my public sector experience to give some additional value.Any advice/words of wisdom that can be offered would be greatly appreciated.
