What are the best (worst?) examples of sucking-up you've ever seen in consulting?I recently encountered the following:A 2-year experienced hire saying to one of the new grads in a sufficiently loud voice that said partner could hear "Oh yeah, he [the partner] has a brain the size of a planet!". Said partner in reality has a big head (both physically and ego-wise) but is more of a slimey douchebag/conman than an oracle.

Sounds more like sarcasm to me. And/or a reference to Marvin the Paranoid Android.

It definitely wasn't sarcasm, this guy unbelievably actually meant it! Maybe it was a Freudian error in his 'compliment'? LOL.

I heard of a case when a subordinate took a bottle of champagne round to a newly-promoted partner's house that evening. It involved a long train ride to get there.

Not in consulting but a bloke my wife works with, and I know fairly well, did this in all seriousness.Made one cup of tea in a full office and carried it across to the new medical director and uttered these words:-"Hi xxx, I've just made myself a cup of tea and then I remembered I don't actually drink tea, so would you like to have it"
