Hi,I've seen a couple of job adverts for Strategy Analysts. Can anyone tell me what kind of work Strategy Analysts do? Is it basically like any Analyst i.e. the grunt work while the Strategy Consultant does all the blue-sky thinking?

Depends upon the context, assuming you are refering to positions within a consulting firm.If so expect it will be like most analyst roles, research, interviewing, market analysis, modelling etc.Within industry it can mean something very different. I recently recruited 2 strategy analysts into the function I work in as a manager. They are involved with development of strategy, major M&A deals and working with the board on delivery of key projects. Advice would be to make sure you explore the role in detail before interview, then ask questions from an informed points of view (e.g. not "what would I be expected to do?" more "what is the balance between desk based research and client interaction")

Agree with JRF and would add that the exact content will depend also on the size and nature of the consulting firm in question - as an analyst with a smaller or boutique firm you will generally get more involved from day 1, whereas in the bigger consultancies your involvement will be more segmented as JRF explained.

I saw the Strategy Analyst positions advertised on this website so definitely for a consultancy and possibly niche because I personally hadn't heard of them before. Many thanks for your replies.
