Hi folks, this is a question directed to people currently or previously at PA.Do you know if its possible to switch from one practice to another? Say from the Energy practice to Strategy & Marketing? Obviously it would be conditional on having the skills but I would like the variety of working on many sectors. If so could you suggest a good way to go about it?Many thanks for your advice.

May be a little difficult as SMP is relatively small in comparioson and therefore can be very picky. If you have the right skills set, I cant see why you would not stand a chance. The best thing in the short term might be to try and get onto SMP 'type' projects and then demonstrate your capabilities this way. Alternatively, you could ask for a transfer but you'll need a very strong case. Good luck

Have seen many transfers- but none to SMP- most people are clamouring to get out and into a group that makes money! You need the partners of the team you want to join to support you and it is both practise heads who have sign off- so if its what you want to do, talk to your line managers so they know what is going on, then take your current head to coffee and tell him why you want to leave, get his support- then take Mark for coffee and persuade him he wants you in the team. If you have a valid reason and something to offer, you should be fine

Wonderful, an example of a constructive and helpful post; a relief from the immature nonsense which is overwhelming this site.....
