I'm waiting to hear back from a final interview at IBM GBS as a Grad Business Consultant. Seems like a great place to work and train for many reasons but I'm a little put off by the travel. They said in interview that one should expect to be away from London almost every week and while they have a good work/life balance most Monday-Thursdays will be spent in a hotel. All travel is within the UK.I am aware that Consulting is a demanding career but I would ideally like to be based in London as much as possible - even if it means working longer hours and the occasional weekend. I wouldn't even mind being sent abroad for, say, two months out of every twelve if I knew the majority of time I was sleeping in my own bed.I like IBM but are there any other consultancies out there with a more london-based lifestyle. I'm not married to the idea of working in Technology - I'm equally interested in Strategy. Would a non-tech role require less travel? Thanks everyone in advance for your tips!

Hi Najtt,Unfortunetly travel is part of the game, even with Strategy roles the probability of travel is pretty high. There is a chance that working for IBM you will be based on London projects, but that really is on the flip of a coin.I can only speak from my knowledge of EY, but we have the consulting business split into two areas, UK & Ireland Advisory and Financial Services (FS) Advisory, and you can apply to these seperately. The UK&I work involves travel on around 75% of projects and is across multiple industries whereas FS work is almost always based fully in London but is limited to financial clients, obviously, FS also offers a specific FS IT Advisory scheme. Might be something to think about, IT/Business Consulting schemes with a focus on on Financial Services/an FS track as this will probably be London centric.
