I am 34, currently in the job market and have over 10 years of IT consulting experience.I have 2 job offers:1st as a Senior Consultant from Deloitte consulting2nd as a Associate Director from Gartner Consulting.Roles are pretty much same, IT advisory and consulting services, but Gartner has a little more senior role, where I will have a team of consultants to manage.Any suggestion on what are pro and cons of both? Whats will be better in long run? Thanks.

Hello!Congratulations on receiving two offers in the current climate!I would say that Senior Consultant is a little Junior considering you have 10 years of IT consulting experience?I would expect you to be at least senior manager by that stage. Deloitte are famous for making low offers but that seems a tad ridiculous. How did you feel about both firms when you met them culture wise? Also were both offers comparable in terms of salary/bonus etc?

I feel the same way; that Senior consultant is a little junior for me. I am a PMP certified, Senior manager at my current Company. We are not as big as Deloitte, but we are still reputed.I started interviewed with Deloitte 2 months ago for a Manager position, but last week they came back and said I am better suited for Senior consultant role. With Gartner, I was treated very well during the process and it looks to be small consulting practice as compared to Deloitte. So I think I will get better recognition and may move up quickly. Not sure though....I want to be on a partner track job, and want to become a partner in next few years. Which company do you think has a better partner track and how easy/difficult it is to get there.

Deloitte are screwing you over. A senior consultant is someone with 4-5 years and limited managerial experience, they're called assistant managers for a reason. Deloitte do have the better reputation though, your call but if it was me i would politely tell Deloitte to shove it.

...apart from they're not. Assistant Manager doesn't exist in Consulting but elsewhere in Deloitte is the equivalent of Consultant (M1).

So consultant is just the fancy title for assistant manager. Gotcha.
