I'm currently in my second year at University. To date, I have no real notable extra curricular activities that distinguish myself from other applicants, which is one of the reason I feel I'll probably fail to secure a summer internship too. (been rejected by most already). My question is whether I should take a gap year to increase my employability, or just use the summer and the second semester to do the same? What I'm thinking of doing if I take a year out is to split the year into a few weeks abroad, a couple months volunteer work and a few weeks in unpaid work experience (hopefully in local/smaller consultancies). The other option is to simply volunteer abroad during the summer, which I'm not sure is enough. I've literally done nothing at University in terms of ECs which I have only myself to blame.
