Does Goldman hire MC's to do its SI or tech work? E.g. Capco Accenture or capgem? I've always heard colleagues being bodyshoped to the other BB firms, but never GS. Is it all done in house?

From what I've been told, GS uses its own proprietary code - called 'slang' - for its inhouse development, and doesnt buy in vendor solutions so you wont see much in the way of external SI work going on. also bear in mind GS isnt actually a 'bank' per se although it did convert into a bank holding company so it could get some government support - being a broker-dealer firm its infrastructure is somewhat smaller than say Deutsche B or Barclays and most of its spend goes (so I am told) on optimising trading tech. Not much, if any, goes out to SI firms - mostly done in-house dev teams and contractors because of the prop code.Apparently.

Agree with that, though I did manage to bodyshop them some business change PMs many years ago, some of whom they then poached.....lesson learned. In the bulge bracket IBs, where I tend to work, you'll commonly find a formal model that distinguishes commoditised parts of the business, where they will outsource or bring in SIs, and then those parts of the business where they will seek to hire and retain the best resource in the market because they see it as an area of competitive advantage. While specialist techy boutiques will get work in those areas, there is a general contempt for mainstream SIs and consultancies as they bring little to the table (but try to take a lot way...).

thanks RC, that tallies too with what ive heard anecdotally around the lack of confidence of many IBs in SI project teams (which I guess probably goes both ways...)
