Hi All, I have been following this forum for a while :) At this point in my career as a consultant I require some expert counseling from all of you. I work mostly on large-scale collaborative project and in one my engagements I closely collaborated with a Director from Big4. We did connect well and he asked me to join their upcoming strategy workshops as an evaluator/observer (to verify and validate their deliverable).I am meeting him again next week and somehow I wish to express my interest to work at his firm without sounding needy or opportunistic. Do we have someone with experience, and if possible how can I navigate from here.I would appreciate any input/recommendation or best practices :)Best Vanishing Nerd.

Vanishing nerd,I would quite simply have a quiet word. If you feel that you have a reasonable relationship there is no harm in testing the waters along the lines of " thinking of a career change/your firm appears to do interesting work/ are there any potential openings for someone with my type of experience etc.Rememeber it is far cheaper for them to employ you directly than via an agency.Just make sure that you are not breaking the terms of your current contract by making such an approach but as you say if you connect well there is abasolutely nothing wrong with a quiet word.
