I currently work in the London advisory practice of a Big 4 firm as a Manager. I've got some great experience focusing on project and programme management with PMO work mostly in the public sector (mostly justice and security) with construction, utilities and telecommunications also featuring. I'm originally from Northern Ireland and would like to move back there in the next few years for personal reasons (to be close to my family, good place to raise kids, easy going, nice people). A better work life balance with less travel would also be nice. My wife likes it there but wouldn't be happy if we moved there and I was then sent to a 5 days a week project in Manchester or Scotland. The easy option would be to transfer to the Belfast office of my firm but what I don't want is to be placed on regional projects due to lack of work in NI. Does anyone have any insight into the management consultancy sector in Northern Ireland? Are there good opportunities or would I be better off getting out of the consultancy game? Any insights would be appreciated.
