Hi, i have completed my master in distributed computing system and always want to work as a consultant. I am working with a small firm as a junior consultant, will i be able to apply for big firm as i passed my masters in 2005.

Hi,When you say consultant, which type of consultant do you want to work as? Is it strategic consultant, operations consultant, IT consultant, Business Consultant, etc?If you want to work as a IT Consultant, I am sure you will have many openings on offer from top IT Consultancies such as Accenture, Capgemini, IBM, etcBut if you want to work as any of the other Consultant named above, my personal opinion is that it would be difficult. I am saying this because I too come from a IT/Technology Consultancy background and I wanted to get into Business Consultancy. But it is proving to be difficult till now.The only way I can see is if you can somehow connect your IT experience to business/management areas, that may get you some breakthrough.I hope this helps.....

Hi,I read your reply and I am also of same opinion that Business or any other consultancy for a person with IT background will be difficult...I am also in IT field working in a reputed company in India for last 5 years...Though I have experience in client interaction, project implementation and requirement gathering...but I spent most of time in coding...and in few months i will be in project lead position...but i also want to shift into consultancy...? will IT cosultancy works for me?....it will be great if you can just mention the role/work of an IT consultant and where it fits in company's hirerachy?
