What do you reckon is the percentage of people who get a rating of a 5?And likewise - are there people who get a 1? I'd be interested in war stories of how they managed this? Thanks

I once worked for a firm where the "height of the bar" depended on how many staff they anticipated requiring in the following year. Bad year? Suddenly loads of the employees got a 1. Good year? The average score went up. Very good year and problems retaining staff? Lots of 5's and maybe even a bonus. Not saying any of the big 4 are like that at all, but the whole concept of "ratings" seems to subjective to me as to be very easy to manipulate for whatever reason one wishes.

Anon MCs

BraveheartBushy has hit the nail on the head for the average MC...Plus you also have to note:I remember a young new guy who delivered more than most on client side (and site), then did a load more for the MC itself, however at the time even I could see that he was not under the wing of one of the Partners or Managers and hence unlikely to get much for his efforts. Sure enough, an angry young man vents his frustration to us on client site a few days after grades are given out. MCs work in a certain way as much as any other type of industry, each one has its own unique things that you have to do. He got the gist of it after a year.

I have seen the central guidelines on the % expected to be assigned each rating. At each extremity, you are probably looking at 5-10% from team to team and year to year. Fewer 1s than 5s.
