SBC claims itself to be a competitor of MCK/BCG etc. (their O&G group) but it is primarily an internal consulting firm. In Houston, bulk of the work is for Schlumberger.Most of the work is operational/implementation sort of work with very few strategy projects. Culture varies from office to office, since most of the senior management is from different firms, they bring their own culture. Houston office has pretty tense environment. Houston office has lost 4 VPs in last 1 year and were able to recruit 1 VP.Regarding salary, the starting salary is at par with other firms (120K for a post MBA consultant)
