Executive MBA

How do recruiters perceive executive MBA? Does it create same possibilities for career changers as full-time MBA?I've been working for 4 years for one of the consumer goods FTSE 100 and my employers offers me executive MBA at LBS. I feel like it's a good offer (sponsored MBA, job security for next 4-5 years). However, if I'd like to change my career to banking or consulting - will executive MBA make the trick?

I am also interested in hearing peoples views on an executive MBA, as it is my plan to complete an MBA (whether it be full-time or executive) once I have a bit more experience under my belt.

I would say 80% of the MBA's on CVs I read are EMBAs. Some people are honest and say it's an EMBA, I take it as a plus but certainly not as an MBA equivalent as entry is much less strict and let's face it, if they can't fill the course they'll take anyone on for the cash.A lot of people sneakily put it as a "real" MBA, you obviously spot quite quickly that the person was working during the period of study and generally I personally will bin the CV as it's clearly mis-stating that person's qualifications - a few days of courses a month is not the same as 1-2 years of "living" an MBA. Overall, my view from recruitment is that MBAs often way overstate their skills for consulting anyway, though if they're bright and keen you can certainly teach them quickly, but the old days of them having the upper hand in negotiating large pay packets and signing bonuses are numbered. Consultancies will still want bright, educated and connected people, just they can afford to be picky. An EMBA gives you a slight advantage over another candidate without, but relevant work experience is always more important for me over any qualification. On a personal note though, if you think it will give you skills/ knowledge you don't have and the company will pay for it, then why not?

I'm working for a big4 consulting firm for 6 years now and I'm considering doing a MBA or an executive MBA? My question is: Am I to old for a "normal" MBA at the age of 30?

Thats an interesting response recruiter. How about those that do part time learning. For example I have an MBA from Warwick which is identical to their full time MBA but I did it through distant learning over a 2 year period. Would you bin my CV and not consider it a proper MBA even though they are identical both in course content, exams and final degree certificate

No, a PT MBA is an MBA and that's what your certificate will say. An Executive MBA is much more an "MBA lite", so it shouldn't be sold as a Masters in Business Administration any more than doing a bunch of weekend courses in quantum physics would equate to a Masters in the subject.

..though I would add do point out you did your MBA part-time as with so many EMBA's on the go it's easy to get grouped in with them.
