Anyone here who has worked in Frankfurt before and has any tips about good hotels/restaurants/bars, German working practices, things to do in the evenings, general tips , etc? I am here for the next 6 months on an assignment , based in London for one of the big consulting firms, flying home every weekend. I have managed to find an Irish pub which shows Champions League games for all the English teams but there are no English channels in any of the hotels, except BBC and CNN : ( Thanks in Advance

I worked in Frankfurt for two years so I'm well placed to advise. The first thing to do is discount the hype surrounding the city. Dispite the Germans naming it "Mainhatten" or the "Bankenmetropole", it is a very small, very provincial and slightly dull city, unfortunately. Think Leicester with a couple of sky-scrapers. Avoid at all costs. (I.e, move off the project or change employers)

Most big german cities are pretty similar if you are only there working during the week. The restaurants are reasonable, though nothing special, they all have a few irish pubs for the football and travel is normally easy

Expect long working hours. City is a lot smaller and cheaper than London and if you look around you will find lots of bars where you can have fun and watch English football

I don't know what you are talking about.Frankfurt has actually had no good standing in Germany for a long time ('only bankers live there'...). But it is now well known that it is actually better than its reputation (in terms of city life). It's a little bit like Washington DC - better than its reputation and improving constantly. It can be tough for a foreigner to find all good places to hang out, but if you live in Bornheim you will meet automatically cool people who show you around.
