I'm thinking of moving to Deloitte in Manchester from another of the big 4 in London. I was hoping for a minor raise in the process, but am being advised that regional pay is lower. Is this the case?If so, are charge out rates lower?

Charge out rates will not be lower because a Manchester consultant for Deloitte could be working on the same programme as a London consultant on a programme in Aberdeen. The rate of pay is lower due to the vastly different living costs, whether that is fair or not is another matter, but it is the same across the big4.

It's not gto a lot to do with the regional cost of living. They are not going to pay you any more than they need to.It's not a question of "we'll knock a bit off because it's cheap up North" - more "£50k gets us a Manager up North".

Also, charge-out rates are lower in many teams. However, not if you work nationally - as you will know (or I despair if you don't) the charge out rate is based on what they can get for you, not what it costs to employ you. Here endeth Economics 1.1.

Regional salaries are roughly 10-15% less than London I believe

I take your word for it - never asked anyone else what they are on! Potentially it could be more though - £40s rather than £50s at SC - ?
