hi,I am currently on a 2 year graduate scheme with one of the big pharma companies. Prior to this I did a biochemistry degree followed by a Physics and chemical engineering masters. The masters was also run with a consumer goods company.Whilst on the scheme i will be undertaking several qualifications including green belt.I am looking to move into consultancy after the scheme finishes.Ideally I would prefer to work in the pharma, medical device and consumer sectors. So would be looking for firms that offered this too as well as the big 4. my questions is would I appear a good a candidate? Or do I need to look at staying in industry for longer? I have noted longer you stay in industry harder it is to break into consultancy???Also can you recommend some companies that work in the fields most interesting to me mentioned above.Thanks and all information appreciated

2 yrs aint enuff. stay longer and establish yourself. Need min 3-5 yrs to have a decent salary and professional duties. Sure, some consultancies will take you- but will bodyshop you around at the whims of senior people ( and quite possibly on a low balled salary as well).Stay in industry longer, gain some credibility and then look for consulting gigs. 3-5 yrs in industry isnt long- consulting companies will value that. I dont think you will be jeopardizing your chances of going into consulting by staying where you are. No need to rush into anything.

I would agree. As far as recruitment from industry goes I would say that after 2-3 years you're still thought to know nothing whereas 4-5 years and you're considered an 'expert'. Implication of course being that you'll be more highly valued, able to work more exclusively in sector etc.
