I've just been made an offer of a senior consultant role in public sector consulting with one of the big 4. I'm delighted, but wanted to get a feel for how good the salary I've been offered is before I start negotiating.I've been offered 59k, with no bonus. How does this compare with other starting salaries for a senior consultant role?

Danni,need some more info as the 'Senior Consultant' role has different meaings across the big 4. Could you please let us know which of the big 4 it relates to? Also, roughly how many years experience do you have?

Recruiter alert - lol. Couldn't be further from the truth. Here is an example: at PwC, levels are: Associate, Senior Associate, Consultant, Senior Consultant, Director, Partner. Now at ACN (ok, not big 4 in the original sense of the term), it is: Analyst, Consultant, Manager, Senior Manager, Partner. Everyone has different terms, and even using the term 'consultant' as a level may be different. Danni - if you are trying to hide the firm you are applying to, at least indicate number of years experience/level to determine salary...

Is it really possible EY is paying a Snr Consultant (the grade above entry level) 59K?That is a bargain and the half considering the grades in EY as I understand it is:ConsultantSnr ConsultantManagerAssociate DirectorDirectorPartnerMost other big 4 and full service firms would be paying in the 40s for that grade level.Is EY really paying that well?

Ex-Cap,But Capgemini's Snr Consultant is equivalent to EY's Manager, not EY's Snr Consultant which is equivalent to Capgemini's Consultant (C2) that pays in the 40s (mainly mid and low) + benefits.

You might just be able to reveal that I was not the one that professed that a Snr Consultant makes 70K. I was merely responding to that post. I take it without a shadow of a doubt that you are smart enough to know Big Consultant is highly likely to be different from Ex-Cap, especially if one is responding to the other's post.That said, if you are looking for detail and descriptiveness, you can look at my post on salary ranges in Capgemini on Thread ID 68798. You will find 70K coincidental falls within the range for Snr Consultant but at the high end, and the entry satisfy your hunger for detail and descriptiveness.Cheers, mate!

Wow, I work for EY and I think thats the starting salary for a manager in EY - its what I got when I was promoted to manager. That said, pay grades were re-baselined if you were promoted last year and got a good uplift. Either good neg at the interview or EY are giving existing staff a good shafting on pay - the pay deal was 3% uplift and a 2.5% bonus starting this year
