Job Security in Accenture

Hi - I have recently got a job offer from Accenture. I have been offered a C2. Generally, the consulting companies place its consultants in some specific client location and generally they get to work on projects. When the project ends or the client no longer needs the consultant, he would be again placed in another client location for a different project. My question is, how easy it is for finding work within Accenture once your current project gets over? Is it quite easy because of their vast client base? I am a Mainframe Consultant...so would like to understand the opportunities in that area. The second question is - I have vast experience in the Banking and Financial services. So would accenture normally place me in the same area? OR would they be trying to put me in a different sector or domain? To summarise, its mostly Job Security I am concerned about and would like to know your thoughts around that. Secondly. would like to know if there is an option to choose the vertical within Accenture which I can choose to work ?Thanks friends....ACNUK

I dont work for them yet so cannot be cent per cent sure but ex-colleagues and friends of mine mentioned they dont go lean during a down turn. When the last recession kicked in, they only offered a voluntary redundancy package but did not force anyone to leave outright - all this info, I add, is from a few people I asked around before interviewing with them.Current ACNers can throw better light on thisOn another note, dont you think this question is absolutely irrelevant? What if they throw people out when the going gets tough? Dont you think if such a time comes at ACN then a majority of the other big firms and almost ALL the small firms will also defo be throwing people out!!!!Aces

accenture, like all consultancies, have a utilisation target and a bench for those between projects. In a lean year bench time can be as much as six / eight weeks (not counting BD or non-chargeable internal / corp work) which is essentially free holiday but has a definite impact on your performance metrics. I should add most areas have zero bench given they cut too deep last year. However, accenture also has a shadowy figure called "The Scheduler" who looms large in your inbox as you approach your rolloff date and who ensures you have a new role lined up practically the day you leave your project. Invariably their priority is not skills matching or growth, but zero bench. Your success in subsequent projects depends to some extent on your ability to fend off this shadowy character and line up your next role within your network.

ACNUK - did you not think these were pretty fundamental questions to ask while you were in the interview process? You're a mainframe consultant...did you not think to find out how much work they do in this area? You have experience in FS...did you not think to ask whether you would get the opportunity to work in that area?Hard to believe Accenture continue to post such good financial results. I gues its all about managing your cogs.
