Hi All,Just need some verification from ACN Consulting experienced hires on the following:I've just accepted an offer from ACN to join their consulting practice (work force: Client & Market) at an experienced Manager grade. While the email offer from ACN did mention that I shall be receiving a variable pay (individual performance bonus + group annual bonus), my employment contract doesn't mention anything on this. I asked this to ACN recruiting and they clarified that they don't usually mention this for consulting employment contracts. They referred me to a reference binder where there is a mention that Managers are eligible for a variable pay.My question to experienced ACN consulting folks - is it normal to not have your variable pay not being mentioned on your work contract? If not, what would your suggestion be as the next steps?Btw, I do have it on email from ACN recruitment about the variable pay component.cheers,Zeiken

Isn't your question somewhat nugatory? You said you have accepted the contract. Accenture may say the bonus is discretionary etc but I will still expect it to be referenced in the contract. It is policy for Manager level consultants in the UK workforce to be paid a bonus. The bonus is based upon several factors, including your performance and company performance.

This is normal. As Frio indicates, ACN consider variable pay to be discretionary and therefore don't include it as a "right" in your contract. I guess this gives them maneuvering room whenever they want to change the rules of the game, i.e. change the variable pay rules.

Thanks Frio & noctilucus for clarifying.I should have been clearer in my post. I've just ''accepted'' their offer on mail, yet to sign the contract.Given that I have it from then in writing (on an email) on the bonus percentage, I'll go ahead and sign the employment contract. Thanks again.

If I remember well, the bonus percentage varies year by year (and obviously also depends on your performance) so don't take those as a given but as an indication.

Be aware that you can rarely rely upon "well you said it in an email" - contracts will often have an "Entire Agreement" clause which basically states that the contract you sign is the complete understanding of the parties.

Bonus is indeed standard for manager - it's made up of a percentage based on your performance and a company modifier depending on results. Last year, for example, the company modifier bought everyone's bonuses down by 50%Don't expect riches, epecially if you're new to the firm, you'll be lucky to end up with any more than 4k after tax
