Can be done but very difficult. Need massive amounts of networking with the right people. And be a bit lucky

do you think that also applies for analysts that really just started (still on the first project)?

This won't address your question, so apologies - but may I ask why you're wanting to move from Technology to Strategy? Isn't Technology the largest function at ACN and thus one of the biggest revenue generating part of the business?

hi sprinterActually, I was getting a bit carried away talking about be realigned. What I really wanted to know was whether I would be ABLE to get on some strategy projects (i am tech aligned) so I can see how they work and whether I can make a contribution - I really just started my career, want to experience more than just ITBut yes, what said regarding technology is very much true

Isn't Technology the largest function at ACN and thus one of the biggest revenue generating part of the business? [/quote]Many people try to move from tech to strategy, some can do it. It is easier if you have good relationships with management. In Technology, a big part of the work in below manager level is pretty tedious. Many people hate testing and even some functional design roles sucks ass. Not to mention more technical roles..So many people move to strat to seek more "interesting" work. No one retires from consulting anyway so it makes sense to try get experience in areas that interest you and in something that you can use in your next job. Yes, a long time career in Accenture in Strategy is way harder to achieve than in Technology. Above manager lever the career progression is tied to (sales or supervised) revenue which is easier to accomplish in Technology.

Hi,Firstly; anything is possible in Accenture in terms of moving from one to another area, and don't let anyone tell you it isn't.Secondly: It depends on three key things; i) your performance ii) who you know and how senior they area iii) the project you are onThirdly: In your case, get onto a strategy project first (this will mainly depend on luck and timing), do a really good job on that strategy project and ensure your line manager hooks you up with MD support, ask to transfer. In can be done, the hardest part is getting onto a strat project as this is not in your control fully. after that its in your hands.

If the move is from Technology Stategy to Strategy, then the move isnt difficult as such. Their core training, frameworks, and methodologies overlap. In fact, Tech. Strat folks and Pure-play strategy folks work together on some projects. But, if the question is moving from a pure Technical role (coding, testing, etc.,) to a corporate strategy kinda role, then it is very difficult. Both are miles apart. I havent come across anyone who made such move. So you best bet would be to move to Technology Strategy team (IT Strategy/Enterprise Architecture/Digital)

It's possible but difficult. Follow the advice above and make sure you do the basics. Networking etc is not the basics. Become a trusted pair of hands.Completing quality work on time is the basics. Performing the basics will give you credibility and allow you to build your network effectively.

by technolology, I mean "Business & Systems Integration" - analyst, still on first project (in fact, still in first month) which is a very big and important one (for ACN) and with a consultant contact in Strategy that is willing to help...

Crack on with the job you were employed to do and stop moaning. If there's work to be done and you want to head off to a "strat" project you'll make yourself very unpopular...
