Hi there,I had my second round HR interview with Acn last week. All along the way it was inferred that I should be fine, if successful, in being able to have Manchester as my home office. My HR consultant thinks it should be fine, my first round interviewer said the same, then during the second round HR interview the interviewer also said the same thing. After the IV, which I thought went very well (they tried to arrange a final interview there and then) I was left for 15 mins before being told final IV would have to wait as no Partner available. At this point I was told by the interviewer that the recruitment manager had just spoken to him and had said that if I was successful it would have to be a London based job. My question is, if I am made an offer, what is the likelihood of them budging on the location? Anyone got any ideas?Cheers

I don't think anyone here can give you that answer due to the confusion within Accenture. Ask the internal recruitment team/Partner who is recruiting you. (You'll probably get more flex from the Partner than you will with recruitment)

I can't speak for the recruitment bit but certainly once you've joined it's not too hard to transfer if you can justify it.

Hi,I dont think location would be an issue, and for Acn, mostly for all the profiles, they offer either London or Manchester. It frankly doesnt matter to Acn as most of the projects would be client location based, which means you will be travelling anyways during the weekdays if your client is not in Manchester or London. Unless you are in FS , it will be difficult to find a project in London or in Manchester..so do negotiate for the location to be Manchester and you will be mostly offered that, unless you have been hired for a specific long term urgent need/project which is based in London.

Manchester sounds very provincial, I wonder what they do up there?I wonder what their rates are and how they get northern clients to pay those rates?Out of interest guys, how much of a market for consultancy do you think there is up north? By which I mean proper consultancy, not 1 man band trainers calling themselves consultants or IT companies doing 5 year ERP implementations, I mean 6 month traditional consultancy engagements that can keep a team of 5 or 6 busy.

BEP – you do make me laugh! There is a very large amount of work available in the North. I spent six months leading a team re-engineering a black pudding manufacturing firm in Hartlepool. I also led a very large IT programme at the National Whippet and Ferret Association based at their HQ in Durham. A collegaue also managed an outsourcing project for the Pencil Museum at Keswick. The MD had been reading about the cost-savings from moving IT off-shore, so they moved all their laptops over to the Isle of Man.

The only downside is that they are used to getting benefits from not working.

Good to see southern softies are still too soft to cut it up hereWe had a southerner once on a project whilst we went home at weekends to the fells, dales and glens he went back to his shoebox in London and chased druggies from his garden - we were sooo jealous Guess I have just come out as northerner of sorts i.e north of the Bushy gapDC

Manchester seems to be an odd place to me. I don't really mind the place but somehow get the impression that, for political correctness reasons, the government has decided that it needs to be more like London. I like the north just the way it is... when it becomes like London, where will we go to escape gridlock and the liberals?
