Hi, just looking for some advice. Looking at planning my career and whilst I've always felt consultancy was appealing, I've felt more drawn to industry. This aside, I've took up an offer from P&G in their CDB function with the view of moving in to Market Planning & Strategy/Brand Management... I'm aiming to spend between 7-10 years here before going back to graduate school for an MBA.A couple of questions... 1. Would this be a suitable industry position to move in to consultancy later in life? 2. What's you're general impression or thoughts (if any) on P&G?3. Would the P&G brand carry any weight when applying to MBA programs? 4. For anybody familiar with the internals of P&G, any advice for which areas of expertise to pursue within the business if I wanted to enhance my chances of consultancy? Of course consultancy isn't everything and I'm merely exploring options; any advice is appreciated..
1. Yes. It used to be the case that a move into brand was preferable, particularly pre-consulting as the brand model within P&G lended itself to consulting very well. Each being run effectively as a pnl in its own right per territory. MBB still see P&G brand people as a prime recruiting ground. More broadly though CDB experience is probably more useful these days, and given P&G invented category in the first place you'll still be learning the best category and trade sale thinking around.2. First class. Always has been. I wonder if they still have the cultish culture though? 3. Yes.4. Marketing/Sales. This was always where P&G excelled and it's where the P&G reputation came from.
