Are there any industry roles with relatively heavy travel demands (preferably Europe or the whole EMEA region)?I slogged away in consulting for a couple of years, got out and am now working in a strategy role for an US tech firm. I'd like to remain in industry (also open to consulting roles), however, for reasons I won't go into, I'd like my next role to have heavy traveling requirements. I'm very comfortable being away from London 5-6 days a week or even longer periods. However, outside of Sales roles, I'm unsure which types of jobs would involve a lot of travel. I'm junior enough to be able to move into something slightly different with relative ease.Thanks in advance.

Internal audit. you will be away 9 month in the year; you would however need (potentially) to qualify as an accountant depending on company policy (most companies now focus on operational risk audit [closer to strategy] than financial audit). quite easy to get into as well; not a lot of people want these jobs because of the travel

My stint in consulting was equally split between strategy planning and cost restructuring in the TMT sector. E.g. where will revenues come from in X years, what fields would be good for the client to get into, potential acquisition/venturing targets & How can we increase efficiency and save x billion over y years without additional layoffs etc etcWhat I'm doing now is broadly similar to the strategy planning work albeit more operational in nature.

The oil companies usually have lots of travel

Certain aspects of procurement work (i.e picking suppliers) will involve a lot of travel.

Not necessarily so important the type of function you join, as the type of business unit.Most large companies have local/country-level business units, then regional structures above these, i.e. Western Europe, EMEA, AsPac, etc. Joining one of these structures will often see you travelling quite extensively around the business unit your group encompasses.

Programme management office for the larger tech firms. Somewhere relatively cash rich like CA or Sun, their PMs go everywhere.

I assumed that being in the EMEA region and with the HQ being in the US, I'd get my share of travel, alas, I was wrong.@ someguy, thanks! I'll look into it.

As a previous poster mentioned, you really need to go toward procurement and wider SC roles to get any significant travel in industry. Alternatively you can go toward supplier side in tech, particularly in sales or NBD within smaller tech firms and be sent all over the world to tout your wares. However, you really have to ask yourself why it is you want all this mobility. I can assure you there is absolutely nothing glam about it. If there are other reasons that keep you away from home then you need to confront them, not look for options to escape.
