Hello All,I have the option to work for a large global company in internal consulting as engagement manager either in Switzerland or the US. I'd like to get your thoughts around the following:1. is internal consulting an interesting place to be within a corporation?2. exit prospects (say 3 years into the role)3. thoughts on location CH vs. US?4. anything else I should consider before accepting the offer? Thanks!

How is an engagement manager also an internal consultant? Isn't the whole point of a consultant is that they are external, bringing fresh view points, and are free of the internal politics? Sounds like a load of BS to me... Also the difference between CH and US are pretty vast... Lets start with where in the US (its a big place)?Exit options are becoming another "internal consultant" or an estate agent...

The company is on a steep growth trajectory (double top line within 7 years starting off a $14B base today); whether growth is achieved through organic or acquisions, one cannot expect the current processes and backbone to support this growth without an upgrade, hence the internal consulting role needed. It's called "engagement manager" because you are supposed to work across various commercial and marketing organizations vs. office-based writing slides. So it does not sound bad at all to me.Exit options: comments made me smile. How about management consulting or line role in 2-3 years once your value is confirmed in the organization?US: rather small place...(ugh)

menete,If I had to guess, it sounds like you are describing an 'internal consultant' role for one of the pharma companies based in Switzerland. Based on anecdotes from former colleagues that went into such roles, here is some food for thought to your first three questions:1. An "interesting place" is a relative term, but highly correlated with the quality of the people you work with and the issues/topics you are trying to solve. Ask around what other people have done before ending up there. Would you want to work with them? Will you find mentors? Are you working on tough company issues / assignments?2. Exit propects are typically to land in a line role. It's more difficult to go back into management consulting, unless you're viewed as some subject matter expert for the industry.3. If it's pharma, you are probably looking at NYC or SFO in the US (both are great), or New Jersey (less exciting). Good luck.
