I am trying to benchmark the Sigma level performance of my Postal company with others. Are any benchmark Sigma levels available for the Postal Industry or Service sector?

BEP,I am sure the OP knows this. I believe what he wants is are actual figures, so he can "benchmark" his company against competitors. Benchmarking, the PC term for corporate espionage - LOL!

Hmm, well in that case I would suggest 2 things:1. Make it up. Make some "guesstimates"; nobody will be able to say any different providing your logic is robust, since there's no info on the net to show otherwise.2. Think creatively... maybe do a FOI request on the royal mail or something?

Sandeepmohan - tell me what's you postal company's sigma level and I'll tell you what should be your benchmark. What is it that you are trying to benchmark at your company. Is it the number of damages, on-time deliveries, incorrect mailing address... There will be a different sigma level for each variable. Anyways, guessing you are looking for just about anything to start with let me give you something for on-time delivery which should be key for this industry. Recent study at USPS (United States Postal Service) at it's APC in columbus shows baseline 2.4 sigma level (187,000 defects per million opportunities). After deploying six sigma DMAIC approach they were able to bring it down to 44,000 defects per million ~3.25 sigma (with 1.5 sigma shift). There will be truck loads of benchmark data available for so called service industry. Even customer service call center falls under service industry but is it a good benchmark to compare postal service??-LSSBB
