Strategic Outsourcing?

A while ago I applied for a graduate business consultant role at a large, somewhat specialised company. I got through to the final interview, but the hiring manager seemed to think I lacked sufficient skills relevant to the somewhat specialised nature of the company (even though they previously had claimed it didn't matter). They recently invited me to interview for a different role, this time for an entry level position in Strategic Outsourcing.Am I wrong to think of "strategic outsourcing" as a synonym for "finding Chinese kids to make our shoes"? Would this career path be a) incredibly boring; b) at least somewhat unethical; or c) a good opportunity? Thanks!

c) is unrelated somewhat to a or b. A good opportunity is based on at least some vague view of a goal you wish to achieve. Said goal is missing in said post. Boring and unethical do not necessarily make an opportunity good or bad.b) is unrelated to a or c. This quite frankly is down to your own moral fibre. Said fibre is missing in said post.a) is unrelated to b or c, and really down to your personal preferences. said preference is missing in said post. The synonym question. Well it depends on the organisation. It's like saying I am going to work for a large building company, do you know if what they build is structurally sound. So given the lack of supporting information the point I am trying to make is that any advice you get here will be entirely guess work and some just pure fantasy.

Responding to pie with just two decimal points seems rather unambitous...

The responses weren't meant to be mutually exclusive. Granted, 'boring' is very subjective, but there are things that are generally considered more or less interesting by most people.'Unethical' should be quite a bit less subjective, but I can't fully delineate what kinds of outsourcing practices I would or would not find unethical -- which is rather the point of this post. I don't fully understand what the term means. Most descriptions I've found are so mind-numbingly general it's tough to get a clear picture.Perhaps I should ask instead for examples of what kinds of projects strategic outsourcing usually encompasses, or whether it's thought of as a sector that's growing, or one that could provide transferable skills. I realize it's probably hard to answer without knowing the company in question, but any general insights would still be much appreciated.

Pie if you want some real answers for god sakes give us some context. A large somewhat specialised company - give us a break do you mean a firm producing beans? An IT firm? A logistics firm? The list is endless and no one will speculate. In the same terms strategic consulting will vary wildy dependent on the above. No one is asking you for the job spec just a lead on what you are really looking for as insight.
