Hello everyone, I want to be consultant in UK and I'm wondering how foreigners applicant do.I have French citizenship, so I'm allowed to work in UK. I've read that's we don't put the country origin in the CV/cover letter.Should I completely hide my origins? They still can see from my experiences, phone number and address that I live in France. Is there a policy for interview travel refund? Is skype considered as a "professional" tool for doing interviews?Thx

Hi,I have been applying from overseas and was made an offer by a Big 4 in London. I always put nationality on my CV as it indicates to HR/the recruiter your eligibility to work in the country without them having to ask you questions.I have had 2 skype interviews and the rest over the telephone which was suggested by the firm so I don't think it is considered unprofessional, however, I am a 27 hour flight from UK so it is completely unrealistic to fly over for a 40 minute interview.Hope this helps!

The issue with overseas applicants is whether or not you have the automatic right to work in the UK. Hiding your nationality / location will make a recruiter suspicious that you are applying from outside the EU (which for a lot of employers is automatic grounds for rejecting an application, as it's difficult to secure a visa in the current climate). So for someone with French citizenship residing in France I would definitely make this clear in your application. You could also show your commitment to moving to the UK by scheduling a trip to London so that you can reference in your applications that you are in London for face-to-face interviews between the following dates...Personally I would do the above - and swallow the cost of one trip (to interview with multiple companies) so that the costs of you travelling to the UK for interview are no form of deterrent to interviewing you. I don't know for sure, but I suspect most consultancies would reimburse you for travel expenses to attend interview - where they have asked you to travel overseas for an interview. The bigger issue is whether this cost would deter them from inviting you to interview in the first place!Hope this helps and good luckTony RestellFounder http://www.Top-Consultant.com and http://www.Social-Hire.com
