There's pretty much no strategy in SI work. While I'm sure proper IT strat does get done from time to time, as a % of hours, I'd guess it's less than 1% in SI. There was a group called SITE that did IT strategy, but that's gone. And of course, non-IT strat will be done by the proper strat group, which does not sit in SI. Regardless, you would need to sit in the SI IT strat group (if it still exists) to get those roles. While there is fluid movement between techie positions, none of my peers who were in SI ever got strat roles. The vast majority of careers in ACN SI start with hands on IT/PMO/process mapping for a couple of years, then move on to project management. You can guide your career to more management consulting roles, but you will need to push for it, and honestly it will rely on being lucky with roles, network etc.I'm not saying this to denigrate ACN. I was in SI, and did manage to move to a more management consulting set of roles, while getting a solid technical grounding before I moved on. I was lucky and took chances. I now work in pure mgmt consulting, and can safely say that >95% of what I saw during my years there was not mgmt consulting.ACN SI is what the name suggests - systems integration, building / installing large software systems, etc. It's a great place to be in many ways, and among the very best at what it does. It is not, however, management consulting.
