Hi, I have an academic background with a Bsc.(Hons), a PhD. in the structural biology and drug design field and at present have a 1 year contract as a post-doctoral fellow. I currently have 7 peer-reviewed publications. I am looking at possibly moving from academia, and science consultancy as interested me.I am unsure, however, of the chances I have, with my qualifications and experience, to appear employable to a consultancy firm.I do not know anyone in the field, and so my perspectives have been gained from web searches.I would be grateful for any advice from all, especially those who may have started as I may be.Thank you...

Try Mckinsey&Company. I am sure there are a lot of other consultancies that you can target. All the best.

Dear Interested, My Phd is in Biomedical Engineering, and I am currently a Senior Consultant after 4 years in consultancy. In all honesty, I think it will be tougher for you than for some others, however that being said I think that it is by no means impossible. What I suggest is that you write a business focused CV and covering letter, i.e one where you translate your learning's into £ signs. I am not that familiar with your area of expertise, but I suggest you highlight the transferability of all your skills and all you knowledge to specific therapeutic areas. In terms of consultancies to target, I would say: -PA Consulting (they are currently recruiting people with your background, trust me, I have had to dodge a few of their recruiters!) -ZS Associates (Niche but highly rated) -IMS (Highly rated, would be a good entry point, although not strictly a management consultancy, if you can speak to someone who recruits for the thought leadership division, it will make the application process easier) Good luck F
